I am installing the ERR Cruise Commander into a Lionel 6-18094 Atlantic that came with TMCC in the engine and RailSounds in the tender. (The owner wants cruise control in place of the factory TMCC.)  I had previously installed a reed switch for the chuff on a tender wheel because the owner was not satisfied with the very slow chuff created by the cherry switch actuator in the engine. It is wired to ground and pin 21 of the audio board in the tender. I have the Cruise Commander running quite good but am confused on the wiring of the 4-pin tether to the tender, which I assume supplies the serial data to the RailSounds. Can anyone tell me which wire would be serial data and how to connect it to the newly installed Cruise Commander? (I assume either the blue or yellow wire.) I have attached a couple of pictures of the tether board at the back of the engine and the tender where the tether exits.

The easiest way to determine which wire carries serial data is to connect the tether to the engine and use an ohmmeter between pin 24 of the R2LC and the 4 wires from the tether in the tender.

Did you actually install a Cruise Commander or a Cruise M? The upgrade could have been accomplished with a Cruise M

Thanks Pete. I will get on that. I found a couple of left over" plugs that plug into the output of the Cruise Commander in my junk box so the connections with the cruise commander are taken care of. Yes, I did install a CC. I had approached my customer about using a Cruise M but he decided to spend the extra 30 bucks and go with the complete upgrade.

Thanks John, I was able to ascertain that from the pictures in the RS instructions. Now I THINK I have the correct wire of the tether. From a diagram you posted some time ago, I see pin 10 on the audio board receives the serial data. By using my ohm meter I found it is the red wire on the tether that goes to pin 10.
