I purchased a Wi-Fi interface unit at York. My TIU was upgraded to 5.0 some time ago. How do I connect the 2 units together. My TIU does not have a USB plug. I believe it is the last one made before the newest more powerful signal version. Hard to believe that is over 8 years.

Is there a cable adapter or am I out of luck?

I am finding Android and Lionel's WiFi to be, um, will, I don't want to break OGR rules, lets just say, less than desirable. Hats off to that guy who's last name starts with the letter K and wrote that Android app and gives it away FOR FREE, but still, good grief Lionel, come on.

Any comments on Android & DCS Wifi? And how about control TMCC engines with that setup. I have been hesitant to drop some $350 only to find it sucks. But if its good, I could start buying DCS engines.

I found out last weekend that I need in addition to the Lionel WiFi device, in addition to the power supply that does not come with it, I need a SER2 to communicate to any of the switch controllers or older IC Controls devices. I see I will also need a SER2 if I want to communicate with anything from DCS system to Lionel, so that will get bought regardless.

seeing how F&G RY thinks you hijacked HIS thread I removed the parts that do not pertain to show it is a good comment.

I run the android app with DCS and Lionel.

never owned a MTH engine until the wifi app came out.

You had better do a Firmware upgrade on your TIU and bring it up to 6.10 also!

Barry Broskowitz posted:

The DCS App requires DCS 6.1 in the TIU.

If you also use a DCS Remote it must be at DCS 6.1, as well.

OK. I will get the correct cable and be in business.

Will the 5.0 work for now? Is it easy to upgrade on computer.

am confused by your ??? response. READ THE QUESTION! and you will see why we all said you need the cable and upgrades.

F&G RY you will absolutely LOVE operating both DCS and LEGACY along with TMCC and conventional via the DCS APP. Barry wrote an excellent book which can be bought in an electronic form (this makes it easy to search for something in it). I purchased bot hard and electronic copies. My hat goes off to Barry for all he has done with DCS and explaining it so well. He also did a nice job Thursday on the two seminars he ran. Nice Knowledgeable and also can take a ribbing and give it out in the name of good sportsmanship FUN! I have told him several times in person thank you for all he does. Quick to answer questions. JUST REMEMBER "Give as MUCH INFORMATION as you can possibly give to any problem. Detailing each step as you go with all components (versions and Numbers help) involved. example MTH Ver L running 6.0."

Illinoiscentral - I hear you on all the components and prices but it is worth it with the DCS side as it will run everything. Lionel actually has some catching up to do. Main complaint being only APPLE products! Left all us Android guys out. BUT they are working on it. Only now I don't need it as DCS Premium App will do it all!

You and Barry replied with 6.1 needing to be installed. After that the OP asked if 5.0 is OK.

I am aware of what's needed. I just don't feel that someone (OP) should be so harsh against interruptions, and still want help... that he already got. At the least, he could listen to Barry's reply of "The DCS App requires DCS 6.1 in the TIU.

Maybe it's just me then???

The reason for the 5.0 question is my remotes and handhelds were in the shop for a repair just after wi-fi came out. I was told they were ready for wi-fi at that time. Making it a fair question to me at least.

Thank you everyone for your help.

if you would have told this to us at the beginning it would have made a big difference.

the more info we have at the start the easier it is to answer.

Just want to Add a success story here,    I too have an older TIU  without the USB ports and I also have to toss in the monkey wrench of having TMCC + TPC300 controllers.   I needed to upgrade my TIU + Remote to 6.1 before I even started.  I was still running 4.3

I was able to get everything working  by getting a USB -> Serial (DB9) Cable  and (2) DB9 Y cables

I can control DCS/TMCC engines from the Remote, and I can also Control them via the WiFi app now!
