Containers? We Don't Got No O Scale Containers !

I wouldn't be surprised if Menards comes out with these next...they are always coming up with something new and at a cost we can all afford....I still love my MTH and Atlas but I have purchased several products from Menards and not yet disappointed....you still get what you pay for.....

Menard's may fill this void....like many others it has.

You know, the OP should know better. It's July and trains are far from peoples mind as well as many hobbyists. Only the Die Hards are still out looking for trains. Come September, it will be a different story on Da bay as well as some shows. I just did a search for 40' containers and there are some K-line and MTH containers out there.

Weaver NOS 20' should be popping around in August. 

There are also Hobby shops out there that minimally use the WWW so stock is out there, the OP just need to find it in sometimes unconventional ways.

There was an earlier thread about making cardstock containers that even contained the artwork. I'll let someone else dig it up as I don't need no stinkin' containers.

Both RivaRossi and Lima made 0 containers which are cheap:

The first one looks pretty good at $10.48 shipped, but I'm guessing you didn't check the prices of the last two links!   For that price, he might as well go first class!

Of the "cheap" one, one container for $35 + $25 shipping.

My understanding is that those older Lionel containers with the side slots are not scale at all.  Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Also the slots in the bottom containers have always bothered me, so I pass on them.

I agree with Dave. Just make what you want. I have made a number of them over the years.

WOW, a dozen for $90, that sure beats the tar out of the eBay offerings!

But can you stack containers with other mfg's  ?

I must say.....Mark and Menard's are on the ball.......I have done product development, marketing and sales of hobby items.  These guys are good.  and no 10-12 month lead in....others might want to learn some of that. I know modern marketing is announce a product and get enough buzz you give it the green light.  A few bumps in development and your at 14 months and the buzz is gone. It's a safe method but has it's own issues. 

Trains are still running. Here is a real intermodal train that I saw today.

You are correct Sir. The Lionel containers above are really S gauge in Size. The reason for the slotted bottom containers was to make those containers work with the MI-Jack inter-modal crane as Lionel couldn't figure out how to lift the bottom container out of the well with the Mi-Jack lifting mechanism.

I too void them like the Plague... ESP if you obtain the Atlas O containers! Those are hard to beat!

The Lionel Intermodal Containers, trailers, and tractors were S Scale or 1/64th Scale in height and length, but they were widened for O gauge. S Scale operators can cut a portion of the Containers out down the center of the length and the Lionel containers will fit in S scale container cars.

i have a number of double stacks and container, lionel and atlas that i want to get rid of.  that have been used.  let me know if interested.  1/2 retail. some in boxes some not.

On the ball indeed! I think Mark has a crystal ball! 

I do like the fact that Menards has the stuff in stock when they announce it. That is a nice touch. It would be nice if the other folks could at least do some of that too, but I guess they are geared more towards a catalog type distribution system and that is just the way it goes.

Could someone who owns MTH, Lionel, Atlas, K-Line and Menards 40' "scale" containers post pictures and/or dimensions of the various manufacturers' containers.  I am having trouble understanding which, if any, containers are interchangeable between the different manufacturers' stack cars or which can be stacked on other manufacturers' containers.

I would be very appreciative.
