So, I've read the first 90ish pages of the O Gauge companion, through using the AIU.

On a conventional loop, can, or why can't an AIU be used to control voltage to sidings and blocks? Transformer >TIU > Terminal block > AIU ports > various sidings and blocks. This way I could cut power, right from the handheld. This would seem cheaper and less complicated than multiple TIUs.

Marty,

It can, with caveats.

If you've read pages 87-88, then you know that the AIU's relays are rated for 4 amps continuous power.

Therefore, if you have a siding with a postwar engine and several lighted cars whose demands may exceed 4 amps, you need to be using an external relay to actually carry the siding's power requirements.

This is described on page 87 as "the second method" of powering the siding through the AIU.
