Hi Guys,

Anyone have experience converting the MTH Doodlebug from Protosound to TMCC?  I know it can be done as I saw one for sale that had the conversion already completed (Dang, sold already) but I was wondering if anyone else here has done it as there seems to be extra connections on the protosound board like the four connections in red yellow white and black which I think are motor connections but I think the red and black are lighting if I'm tracing the wires correctly.  I know that Lionel has a Doodlebug coming out with TMCC already on it but I'm trying to get this one completed in time for Christmas.

Thanks for any help you can provide

Roger

I'm worried, I think you got some of that seriously wrong what the colors on a PS1 board are for.

Red and Black are track power 3rd rail and the wheels or frame ground for black.

Yellow and white were main motor connections for DC can motors.

Green and blue connectors if present were for 1.5V incandescent headlight and tail light directional lighting.

In some cases a yellow connector was also present for LED markers (seen in the below diagram showing that location).

Highly suggest you review this topic https://ogrforum.com/...-diagram-or-pictures

Yet another great technical answer by @gunrunnerjohn

There really isn't much to wiring a PS/1 board, four wires go to the locomotive through the tether, power and motor.

Here's a wiring diagram that I captured, I honestly forget who gave it to me or I'd give him credit.

Here's another document, the connector mapping, it might also be of some help.

I've done a couple, and I have one sitting in my IN BOX for conversion as well.  I use the ERR Cruise Commander and the ERR RailSounds Commander (GAS POWER SINGLE CHIME) sound set.  There is no magic to this conversion, it's a straight-forward ERR upgrade.  You will probably have to replace the lighting, those bulbs are 1.5V as I recall.  I replace them with 3mm flangeless LED's, much better light.
