Creating an individual Model Railroad catalog on a personal computer.

I maintain a catalog of my 3-rail O scale model railroad collection. For each item in my collection I create a catalog page that includes photos of the model and various manufacturer details including MSRP and date of manufacture. These catalog pages are actually web pages that could be placed on a website along with a complete index of my collection.

I started a database on all my locos but stopped updating it a couple of years ago.  I had its uses - it was interesting to sort and count, etc., but ultimately it seemed a more effective use of time to just keep the system I use now.

All I do is keep an an index card stapled to the last page of the instruction manual for each loco  where I keep notes on when and where I bought it, any problems, fixes, when I ran it, lubed it, etc.  Despite its old-school simplicity, this system is immediate, easy and quick, and I know where it is when I need it.  I keep all the user's manuals neatly filed away in the trainroom, as you can see.
