I recently obtained a BN Mint Sunset 3RD Rail AM-2 Locomotive. I first looked at the tender, did maintenance, changed the battery and then placed it on the track to let the lubricant get in the wheels. I suddenly noticed that the screw holding the slotted plate, which receives the loco draw bar, was resting on the center rail, scratching the rail and would probably short the electronics. It needs to be about 1/4" shorter-here is a pic of that screw on the rail- Has anyone experienced the same problem or does anyone have a shorter screw which would work for that engine:

You could always cut the screw to the correct length with a Dremel and cut-off wheel.

Its likely a shouldered screw with the shoulder too long. If a correct one can't be found easily you could use a full thread screw of the correct thread and add a washer and piece of brass tubing for the shoulder.

Norton, I just wonder with amazement how it passed inspection by #11(sticker on the tender) - there were only 50 made by Sunset- I hope all of them were not the same- I think I will try to contact Sunset tomorrow and see what they say- if not I will follow your advice- there are insulating washers on both sides of the slotted plate , so I can use them, preventing a short- stupid error by the factory-Thanks Norton-Rolf

All is well- I emailed Scott and he responded very quickly- The trouble was the truck bolsters were slightly concave, lowering the tender- he advised me to remove the trucks and straighten them out- it worked like a charm- thanks for all your advice and especially thanks to Scott- finally got to see this gorgeous engine running-Rolf
