Yesterday at around 2 pm a CSX train hit a trash truck at a non-signal crossing in eastern Baltimore County, MD. Shortly after the accident a few cars caught fire and shortly later a massive explosion took place. I live about 6 miles and I heard explosion at first I thought the explosion came from the old Sparrows Point Bethlehem plant which is being torn down. But I then realized that it had come from the crash. Since my volunteer station that I belong to & it is right across from my home was alerted for our rescue truck for the train crash. I heard the call given out on my pager but I'm on medical leave so I could not go. But I did have my wife drive me there but it was in a remote area, so we went home and watched it on TV. What really surprised me was that the driver of the truck worked with me in the Balto. Co. fire dept. as a driver and he retired from the fire dept. a couple of years ago.
Here some links with some impressive video taken.
