I was at my LHS today (Mainline Hobby) and saw these sets are coming in. I ordered mine through Mr Muffins because of a different reason, and I don't believe he got them in yet.

I see there's a seller on ebay who has broken up the set, so you can buy 520 separately. It is a pre-war version of 520.

Anyways, for anyone who has ordered one or received theirs already, feel free to post any pictures or your thoughts.

I would assume they painted all the shells way ahead of time.

Are these premium sets assembled at the Lionel headquarters? Being that the different components are made in different countries. I can't see Vietnam sending Railsounds boxcars to China. I would imagine everything ships to HQ where they assemble the required components into the special box.

Nice set, but my affections dropped at seeing the $1499 sticker price  !!

So far, it’s a beautiful set, though the main drive motor keeps locking up, even in forward. I suspect being the same product as the other L1’s, it has the same faulty gearbox issues. I may see in the L1 thread if anyone else has it lock up in forward and reverse. Everything else works beautifully and came out nicely, just a little saddening with the locomotive locking up right out of the box.

Luckily the locomotive was able to operate fine after a thorough track cleaning, but I haven’t seen the reverse lockup issue in my testing. I may end up calling Lionel to discuss the known issue and if they have a fix. Still though, a really fun set getting a locomotive, sound car, operational trolley, and caboose with marker lights in one set.

I was able to get the N6b caboose from this set from that seller so I'm thankful they are willing to break them up. It's an easy choice when all of the contents are desirable, however. Really nice set all around although I wish they would have got the engine color a little closer to what we are used to.

Everything is awesome, except a pilot step was loose in the box. It had broken off. Well I managed to fix it with a little Gorilla glue and it seems to hold really well. Other than that, no problems. I did open her up and check for loose screws. Everything was tight. I opened the gearbox and loaded it with plenty of Super Lube. Ran it forewards and backwards. Was a little jittery at slow speeds, but I guess the inside got all lubed up and it smothed out.
