I recently received the AtlasO PS1 50' Boxcar lettered for Seaboard:

I need to get some more Kadees so I can put them on this car and the AtlasO 40' Double-Door Boxcar (also Seaboard) I got at the same time.

What do I need to do to make the coupler assembly look like one on a car with the "Cushion Underframe"?  Or do I leave it alone and mount Kadees in the normal fashion?

Rich,

Here's the Atlas link:

I have a few, but I need to count them first.  I only need 2 so if I have some that are useful I'll let ya know!

I modified a Kadee to fit inside the box.  There's a 1/2-round step on the bottom side of the Kadee that I sliced away so the bottom would be flat.

I put the spring between the post and the front of the coupler, but it may work better between the post and the rear of the coupler, I need to experiment.

Dave,

The Atlas pockets I have have the same design on the sides as what you see in the photos.

I put the Adjust-A-Coupler assemblies on the car in question, I had to use another set of Atlas trucks that had the mounting holes in them.  They came out to the correct height on the Kadee coupler gauge.  It's just that now they're truck-mounted.

If the Gougen castings mount to the underframe, I might have to find a pair of them as that would be more prototypical.

Rich,

I have 3 pairs of the Adjust-A-Couplers if you need any.

Bob those are Atlas coupler pockets that I got from Mike Gougen. He mills them out to fit a Kadee 805 box inside the coupler extension pocket. Of course you have to trim off the ears of the 805 box, and then body mount the whole assembly as one piece. They are BODY mounted, NOT truck mounted. They really look great when it's done. I email Mike Gougen directly and buy them from him. I don't think this is the Adjust A Coupler pocket that Mike uses. Here's Mike's email address : mgoguen@charter.net I think they were $3 or $4 a pair the last time I got them about a year ago.

In this picture you can see the Kadee Box fits right inside the milled out Atlas coupler pocket. This way the Kadee works perfectly, but if you modify the Atlas pocket to fit just the kadee coupler, it never does work quite right 100% of the time.
