Custom detailed "junk load" for the MTH Premier gondola

Here is another "paint" version (#3 of 10). No two gondola loads are painted identically.

 

 

Those look awesome!  I'll bet in a weathered gondola they'd look just that much better.

What is that one at the top. Now if you could only make them look more modern without all the steam engine parts

It's amazing what some detailing can do to an otherwise bland load. I have been making scrap loads from common materials, some of which are metal, and others plastic or other light material, which I try to balance for a reasonably weighted load. Yours look great!

I weathered and modified a bunch of these junk loads over the years.

 

I prefer to cover the old steam engine parts with items we would more likely see.

Steam engine parts would be a rare site in the later types of gondolas.

 

MTH really needs to update this junk load to match the era these cars would represent.

The load is too heavy dragging down trains and increasing shipping costs as well.

 

Here are some pics of two types of loads I've made for this style car, this is an old Atlas model.

When I needed a load for a railgon model I'd just finished and was taking to a show I emptied my workbench scrap box into it and no one was the wiser :> ..DaveB

The resin cast junk loads can get stuck in the gondola if it inserted wrong.

Just flip the car over and they fall right out from the weight.

I made some that are only a few OZ, no need for that much bulk in any car load.

Unless you want to use them as a platform for a track cleaning car

Track cleaning is myth carried over from 2r and HO in which I had to do constantly.

 I never need to clean tracks in 3r.
