CW80 question

The green light on grandson's CW80 (over a year old) has gone out. Therefore he has no indication of "shorts". I will check to see if the "fall back" on the transformer is working, if I can find a meter at his house.

Is there any way to replace the bulb ? Checked on the main forum, and got an essentially "no" answer.

The transformer runs the train OK. I am concerned with safety issues ? Are there any ? Transformer is plugged into a GFI which did blow when the bulb went out. There was a short on the track.

Comments please.

I suspected that the "fold back" was not functioning, and that is why the GFI blew, I don't have a meter available here.

Thanks for your advice. I will suggest that the train only be operated with adult supervision, until I can ge home and send a new transformer.

If the GFI tripped, there is something else going on. The CW, fully loaded to 5 amps output, only draws ~100 watts or ~ 0.9 amps. The GFI does not provide overload protection.

Rob-

I have modified my advice to,"Don't plug in this transformer! I will send you a new one."

I use 4 CW-80s on my layout, and I have never had this problem. Noisy fans, yes.
