I just received my dcc system a week ago. I wired one loop up right away( tiu fixed voltage #1 ) and it worked great.  Last night I wired the transformer second power outlet ( dual power) to tiu fixed voltage #2 and fixed voltage output number 2 to a second loop.  Then I tryed the  first loop, the engine worked great, when I put ot on the new loop (2nd) the engine lit, but the  the controller told me it was out of range.  The tiu and controller were 30" away from the engine.

My layout consists of four pods with conecting areas, my goal is to have each loop run independ of each other. Each pod is conected to the others (switches)  to transfer trains from one pod to the other. Each area transfer is isolated with pins.

Does a tiu only control one area? Do i need a second tiu?
