DCS Engine Maint. Reset

Usually when you try to change a setting. ID or whatever and it doesn't stick with the engine it's a low battery problem.  How long do the sounds continue on after track power is shut off. Shutting down with the remote doersn't count.

Gregg has it right.  Throttle off your transformer, pull the plug or whatever and see if the engine sounds continue for at least 6 to 7 seconds.

Yes to Proto 3 but no battery involved.

I suspect the chips in the PS3 are fast enough they don't really need all that time to write the data before they shut down, if so then the power on hold time is not needed and the caps can be smaller / less expensive, and you just won't hear shut down sounds if you kill power.

As a test I'll kill the layout with my new PS3 Imperial Northern powered up and find out what happens.

Fired up the PS3 engine, ran a couple minutes then sitting with sound on in front of the layout, I killed the power. The sounds did not complete but it did last 6 or 7 seconds.

So I'd say you should contact MTH about your PS3 engine, it sounds like you got a bad Capacitor.

I have learned to ignore the "need maintenance" message.  It pops up on too may different occasions to have meaning.  For example, it shows if I try to start a loco which is on an unpowered track.
