I finally got an old dcs engine to be recognized, now my remote show a M in the screen what does this mean?

A single M means....External Microphone is active. Not sure if you successfully added your engine to the system. Have you powered it up ok?
I had an issue getting one engine to add, I reset all tius and remotes and finally got the engine to add, however as I added these engines back I started getting the m on the screen of every added engine.
By the way all engines power up and work just as they should.
chief:
Press and release the Microphone button below and right from S5.
I suspect it is stuck on.
That will put you in Proto-Dispatch mode. The M is displayed when you enter that mode.
If that has no effect, ensure a patch cable is not plugged into the Proto-Dispatch socket on the TIU, I don't recall if that will trigger the setting on or not.
I wish I had a remote handy but isn't there a setting to turn the "M" off. External mike? like from a kids MP3 player or similar? Sound menu perhaps?
I don't see any setting to disable dispatch.
Can't find it... The external mike that plugs into the tiu...I thought there was an on / off setting. Guess not but there must be a way to get ride of the "M".
Russell I have pressed and released the microphone button and it does nothing at all, also there is no proto dispatch cable attached and even tho I press the mic button it also does not play my voice, i just did not understand why the M came up when I re-added these engines as it came on in all but a few.
Menu/ sound/ scroll down to external mike/select it... soft-key s1 turns it on
Soft-key s2 turns it off....
That doesn't disable the internal mic.
Does on my remote. The M is gone if off is selected. The M is back if on is selected. ( in the eng screen.)
I 'm sitting at the computer with just the remote , the tiu is not powered. I don't think it'll make a difference though.
BTW you don't get a M with the built in remote mike and never did.
I have disabled the setting, but the Mic button on the remote still allows you to talk through the locomotive (and potentially experience the lockup bug).
Yeah There's no way to disable it (remote's built in or internal mike what ever you want to call it) other than not pressing the button. I don't think that was Chief's problem. I think the "M" showing up on his remote was the external mike setting .
Gregg I will see if that makes a difference
You may have to select each engine to turn it off.The remote I grabbed only had one engine added... Menu/ Sound/ internal mike/ on or off..
Greg I think you are right about this issue. chief
