Being the president of Angels Gate Hi Railers, I decided very early on to close the club and suspend dues through at least June. However, the train club has always been my salvation being an escape from the daily stresses of work.

Some of you may know that I am in the textile business. I have been working what seems like 24/7 since the lock downs have been issued. My main responsibilities are trying to source fabric to make masks and gowns  for every apparel manufacturer who has transitioned from making other apparel products to making masks and gowns. I have had an education on what constitutes fabric compliance with level 1 risk products thru level 4 complicity.

The problems encountered are numerous. The polypropylene supply which goes into making masks has dried up in the world with many countries shutting down exports. Prices have skyrocketed because of supply and demand. I could go on and on about the challenges I've encountered. However, what has come through in all this is the tremendous American spirit of everyone trying to help and contribute their time and skills to help people and save lives.  It's truly heartwarming.

No sports, no trains, but good forum talk. What's your outlets?

Trains have always been my outlet to forget the BS of the everyday trials and tribulations. The train club may not be accessible but the forum is. That's my salvation right now. Thanks for the outlet everyone!

I didn't get out much pre-virus; so not much has changed for me. I already had a few months of supplies in Feb. and restocked very little the first week of March.

It seems you might need that 0-27 carpet layout after all

I had to pull mine up with the increased home traffic; but there are still 5 small loops, one table and a shelf layout to entertain me.

First, thanks beyond all measure for the work you’ve doing. You guys are saving countless lives by providing protective equipment to our frontline folks.

Being retired and in good health, I am able to play lots of golf while maintaining social distancing. Also addressing multiple yard work projects. I’m walking the course these days which has taken off a few pounds as I go along.

Starting 1975 I have had a floor layout in my second bedroom. In 1980 a friend who is a jack of all trades built me two tables 10ft x 5ft each that are bolted together. On the table surface is compressed cardboard with indoor outdoor carpeting on it. The table top is supported with 2 x 4s every 12" so it can be walked on. Even though I have attended many train shows and club layouts especially the NJ High Railers and The Stamford Model Railroad Club I have kept my home layout just in case the day might come when something keeps me from trains meets and club shows.. I also have a collection of movie discs, cds, lps, and railroad books that all kept me entertained. I started getting electric trains in 1952 and still have all of them and kept buying more up until a few years ago when Lionel, MTH, and Atlas stopped coming out with new locomotive models except for one pricey steam engine and one small diesel. There excuse is the cost of having new dies made. Well Sunset Models-3rd Rail doesn't seem to have that problem. Since they came out the the FL9 models 7 years ago there's are the only locomotive models that I have been purchasing and even have their E1 Santa Fe A & B units on order though my dealer of their product.

I am sorry that Jeff Waldman does not have a home layout but he is invited to come and visit me if he lives in my area and run my trains. Anyone else on the forum who is does not have a home layout and wants to run trains is welcome to stop by as well.
