It was the part of NMRA's Heritage car series.  If I remember correctly the series eventually consisted of 18 cars available in all scales from N to G.

One had to be an NMRA member to get one.  They're long gone from the NMRA company store.

The Delta Lines car was car #3 of the series.  It was available with either 3-rail or scale trucks.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up about the Intermountain version. I think I will hold out for that one since it will be 2 railed anyways. I really like Intermountain stuff.

Cool, I thought I was the only 2 railer who wanted a Delta Lines boxcar. When Weaver announced that car a few years ago I ordered both road numbers in 2 rail. I really like the car a lot but for some reason Weaver put Arch Bar trucks under it. It just didn't look right to me and when I get a chance I will change them over to Bettendorf trucks.

I didn't know Intermountain did a Delta Lines Boxcar too. I've never seen one but I'll keep an eye for one.

Having been a Frank Ellison fan for longer than I care to remember, when I saw Weaver's Delta Lines car I had to have one,  actually two.  And then last year at York I bought a wooden, home built model of Ellison's "Hap Hazard Packing Company" and when I put it on the layout over a short siding, I found that the Delta Lines boxcar was one of the few cars to fit into that building.  Weaver's version of the car is of an early steel boxcar and is only 3 1/2" tall, which fits through the door on the building to the loading dock which is covered.  The PS-1 boxcars are fully 4" from the rail to the top of the car and just don't quite fit.

So, now I have a "genuine Frank Ellison car" to go with my "genuine Frank Ellison building.  Works for me!  Keep looking at train shows, on line and I'm sure you'll find one of those cars for yourself.

Yes Weaver did make one. I forgot about them and missed out. Don't know about the rarity, but sooner or later one will probably show up on eBay.

Weaver did a great job on their Delta Lines boxcar and I expect there are cars still available from them or at shows.

Intermountain cars, which they made for the NMRA series on famous layouts in O scale (and others made in G, HO and N scale) are not very good. Unfortunately they used a sort of shiny tuscan colored plastic which had a semi-transparency to it and then stamped the white lettering on which came out as kind of a milky gray. It was not attractive. I tried spraying the inside of the car black to try to mask the transparency of the tuscan plastic and that helped a little but it was still not an attractive car. The G, HO and N cars were painted tuscan and then lettered and they looked good. But I was very unhappy with the Intermountain O scale car and can't recommend it to anyone. The Weaver car is the one to look for!
