Beautiful layout and photography. I'm expecting a pair of SJ Frameless Tank Cars next week. I just started a Crystal River water tower - a beautiful kit and will make a wonderful model if I don't screw it up.

as usual, much too long since i posted last. i was at the chicago O scale show last weekend. great time! purchased a few san juan narrow framed utlx tank cars for $75 each. bought a few books... pondered buying the glacier park NP 4-6-0 model.....................

Those are fine layouts and photos. Thanks for sharing them with us. Your layout looks great. You've weathered your engines and equipment beautifully. The yard at Point looks like a very busy and prosperous place.

Thank you for posting. Big fan of the Denver & Rio Grande ever since we visited/rode the Denver & Rio Grande Narrow Gauge Railroad in September 2009; the scenery was magnificent. Hope to ride the Cumbres & Totec this June.

Tow of my favorite engines are the Berlyn locomotive Works (now out of business)
Denver & Rio Grande K-37 and my Accucraft K-28. The Berlyn loco has the most detail including cloth window shades and a wooden cab floor.

Thanks, the spacing just looks great. My current project has a yard that is 16 feet by 6 tracks wide. When I first laid it out in the software it looked OK, but when I sketched it out on the plywood I just didn't like the look. It looked to much like a mainline terminal and not at all like a narrow gauge line. Thanks again for the looksee and the reply. I appreciate it. Russ

not too much completed in last couple months. have received a couple O std engines. one i had on order for 5 years (GN M2 - 2-6-8-0) and found a NP S4 - 4-6-0. so i have been prep'ing those models with coal, crew, tweaks, break in periods, glass, etc...

but it is basically the 5 year anniversary of the layout. and 10 year anniversary on this forum.

so i updated a few pics on the site. some construction photos from 2006 out there as well as some pics of the new O std models, in the layouts O std vignettes.

just got my pickup notice for the new accucraft on3 c-16, bumblebee.  just shipped out today, so i should have it in a few days.  very interested to see what accucraft can do in on3 steam....

got my accucraft c-16 268 bumblebee.  very nice for the money. saw a few at chicago show for sale.  will post a few pics of it soon,  tsunami on its way for installation.

Greg, I think the silver bridge is an Overland brass pin-connected bridge but I could be wrong.  Zak will give you the correct answer though.  Russ

Thanks and thanks for the great ng videos.  Very nice.  We are about 6 months away from serious scenery stuff.  We are trying to get the mainline running (not finished just running) by Christmas.  We want to run the railroad before the scenery gets going as there is a lot of hidden and hard to reach areas.  I have built a couple more buildings and my next project off site is the old Antonito depot.  Should be fun. You have a great ng layout.  Russ

Not a lot of modeling here but have redesigned a point-to-point (staging yard) On3 layout. It will feature more switching with 9 possible industries serving a busy resort town in the San Juan Mountains.

The plan is not ready for viewing. The industries are what I imaged would exist at the end of the line and serving a large resort. They are (1) a cold storage warehouse/locker, (2) food wholesaler, (3) fuel dealer, (4) team track, (5) LCL freight house, (6) lumber yard, (7) furniture factory, (8) spur to a lumber company (ties and poles), (9) passenger depot and (10) small engine terminal with turntable. I have one long wall that will accommodate a five track stub yard and be able to receive/dispatch a 12-car train. The staging yard is similar. A hidden turning loop under the layout turns the trains around from staging. Minimum mainline radius is 36 inches with 3.5 inches spacing on curves and 3.25 inches in the yards. 

 

I'm running various scenarios to see how the switching is done with both facing and trailing point switches. I plan to run it by myself so if it takes a while to do it, that will be fine. At this point, I plan to run three scheduled trains, one being a passenger using the same type of equipment as the San Juan. The time period is about 1940.
