So last summer when MTH announced their closing I perhaps overreacted.  Ended up preordering a Lionel Northern Pacific GP7 which came in this week and went ahead and ordered the Legacy system as well.  I really like the feel of the Legacy remote.  To me it feels more substantial than the DCS remote and the speed adjustment is fantastic.  I also think the GP7 is very nice.  Just wanted to get that out there so no one thinks I am not a Lionel fan.

With all the MTH special releases as of late I now feel like I could have waited before jumping into Legacy.  In the back of my mind I always wanted to purchase the Legacy system but the MTH news last year certainly pushed me over the edge.  Just curious if anyone else jumped into Legacy thinking it would be the only game in town.  Now I almost feel guilty for turning my back on MTH and showing such little faith.  My wife just read this post and wondered if I am taking this hobby a little to seriously.

What Pat said.

I'd also like to add.  Unlike most other things in life these days. The whole point if this hobby is not worrying about what someone else "thinks".

Those that are  running postwar Lionel on green plywood are having just as much fun as those with highly realistic scenery and weathered cc locos with Kadee couplers.

There are layouts that represent everything in between as well. Everyone's a winner.

A hobby probably is best not treated as a religion .  MTH is going away no matter what you do, so just relax and enjoy whatever you like about the hobby.

Exactly right @Landsteiner.  Besides, who turned their back on who first?  It wasn't the MTH customer.

Yup. She's right.

Corporately, it is way too easy for us model rails to get all wrapped up in the drama and such that goes on within the industry.

Personally, I pretty much have enough train crap on hand in order to enjoy this hobby for the rest of my years. Anything I purchase now is either driven by things that appeal to me, or driven by the above sentiment! (i.e. Taking it too seriously in conjunction with purchases driven by the concern I'll be left out.)

We all need to step back, take a deep breath, and rediscover the true fun in trains.

The fun truly is there if we'll take the time to rediscover it.

Pat is 100% correct.  Nothing at all says you can't have Lionel Legacy/TMCC and MTH DCS on the same layout, we do it all the time.  I run either system anywhere on the layout.  Lionel Legacy with WiFi, MTH DCS with WiFi, and of course with the TIU, I have conventional running on the mainline and sidings for the rare times I have a conventional piece to run.

Now that I have recently come back to the hobby and discovered Lionel's Legacy all of my future locomotives must have Legacy. The system is that good. Enjoy your Legacy and go on a Legacy locomotive buying binge! It will make you feel better! Trust me, I know!
