Here is most of my diesel fleet.  The first group are diesels that were around in 1948/49 and fit right in with my late 40s era layout.  What I need to complete my PRR diesel fleet are a PA-1 ABA, FA-1 ABA, S-1, and H20-44.  Not sure a scale S-1 or H20-44 have been made in O, and still hoping 3rd Rail produces their FA-1 in as delivered PRR colors.

The Train of Tomorrow never crossed paths with either the Freedom Train or Friendship Train (pulled by Centipedes on PRR trackage), but the Freedom Train and Friendship Train did meet in Harrisburg, PA.

This second group are my red/white/blue fleet.  Not sure where the Santa Fe SD75s came from, but they are really good looking engines.  As far as the R/W/B fleet, I am only looking for a Lionel BN SD40-2 #1876 to consist with my U30C to pull my AFT.

Yes have some diesels!  Ironically as a lad in the later 40's and early 50's was totally enamored by diesel trains.  Even though my hometown was served by five Class-1 RR's (Pennsy, NYC, B&O, Erie and the P&EL (Little Giant) plus a dozen or so Subs.  All with steam running around, in fact  in the recesses of my mind I recall seeing the P&LE A2a Berk in the lower east side.  I recall my Dad telling someone that I was a "modern" kid when it came to diesels vs. steam.  But today as a modeler prefer Steam and Electrics.  Diesel interest are first generation  and second generation.

I got this one in very warped condition - pewter.  It turns out that with gentle pressure you can bend pewter without cracking it.  Of course it makes me wonder if it will sag of its own weight, but so far straight as an arrow.  Someday it will get power.

I think we can blame a combination of Penn-Erie, and Locomotive Workshops.  There exist cast aluminum versions.

DSC02999This one is the pewter version - I have since added handrails, pilot beams, and good truck mount brass, along with couplers etc.  This thing looked like a pair of banana peels when I started.Britannia MetalMaroons u50This one is my friend Maroon's aluminum version.  A superb model from the doorstop era.

My Flyer diesels. Somewhere in my basement, there was a yellow, black and blue Santa Fe A-B-A diesel set. Also. their was a red and silver (satin finish)  Santa Fe A-B-A diesel set. The set you see in the picture is my chrome set.

In the first picture, there is a showcase behind my diesels holding my Hudsons, 0-8-0 switchers and Northerns.

Only, the top self is visible.

This is a picture of my Generals and two of my bullet nose steam engines.

What is stunning about all this is that most are more accurate than the average 2-rail model except for track, wheels, and sometimes couplers.  The models directly above are certainly beautiful reproductions of the real thing.

I go for slightly more crude models

Erie with finished deco

This is a combination of 70 year old castings and modern stuff.  The sides are sand cast bronze, with permission from Atlas.  The nose is a lost-wax casting with B-17 windows.  There is a thread on the 2-rail forum covering my Erie-Built obsession.

Yes, Mark - when I power stuff it is with Pittman.  My original attempts used the 9434 and 9436 motors, and in a couple cases even the larger 14000 series cans (I think they were sewing machine motors or something - huge and really slow).  I now use only the 8x24 series, where x is the pin out location (a "don't care for me usually).  I get more than adequate power, lower drive shafts, and faster rotation.

Pittmans of xx1x numbering are to be avoided whenever possible - inferior magnets!
