Well for one thing, that circuit board is NOT Railsounds. That board is Trainsounds- a limited feature board- so you follow the pinout and connection guide for Trainsounds

Edit, just trying to make sure when searching the forum, you use the right name of the very board you are trying to connect so you get accurate relevant results.

see where your chip says "EL" ?

Electric- hence not a diesel prime mover sound.

Ah...so electric doesn't have any sound increase?

OK never mind on this last one...got the sounds working...just need to try the hall sensor to see if that works...

It is a Hall sensor- so yes, a magnet- south pole.

so in theory would this one work if i had wiring correct, or would it fry it or something? i already have this one...

There is no difference. Lionel used hall effect sensors of this type on steam tenders, diesel engines, cars that had sound.

It's specific to the board. You asked about Railsounds 2.5- that is "the" sensor for railsounds 2.5 already wired for plug and play.
