I am strickly a conventional operator currently powering my layout with a MRC Dual transformer.

This Spring/Summer I will be rebuilding and expanding my basement layout.  I also have inventoried my engine fleet and of my 12 engines, 4 came with TMCC (3rd Rail, Weaver, Atlas, and K-Line).

Two command fuctions have peaked my interest - the ability to remotely uncouple and the ability to build and run a consist of two powered engines from my turntable area.

I'm trying to get some ballpark guesses on making the switch to TMCC.

- What are the basic components that I would need?

- I'm not really interested in the railsounds, so I'm guessing to upgrade older engines to TMCC I would need only an ERR AC/DC Commander Kit or ERR Cruise Commander Kit, plus electro-coupler (if one not already on the engine) and antennea?

Thanks,

Jim

For each locomotive conversion, you'd need at a minimum the AC or DC Commander (or cruise), Boxcar Bill has good prices on all the ERR stuff.  You can also buy the electrocoupler(s), typically around $10/ea.  For steamers, you may need a tether, I use the MTH tether parts, figure around $25 for the tether set.  You should be able to convert most diesel units for less than $100 assuming no sound, the steamers may be a bit more due to the tether requirement.

Obviously, you'll need the TMCC/Legacy system.  I recommend not looking for a used TMCC set but rather bite the bullet and get the Legacy, you won't be sorry.
