From Rich883's thread:

Rich Lionel made a DC Converter 6-82116 for converting AC to DC, line does up to 10 amps and puts out 12 volt DC and the converter box has a breaker on it.I have several for converting to DC for all my animation and DC lights. Its purpose was to allow its G gauge operators use of the ZW and other Lionel transfomers. I know S and W Train parts has them, try them.

I've tried to find some info on this converter but can't find anything on the Lionel website.

When were these made?

I assume you need to use an old Lionel transformer and that the new 18V bricks put out too much power, or am I wrong?

This seems like a good solution for a temporary power problem I'm having.  Thanks for posting the info.

You are correct, I was able to pick one up.  It just came an hour ago.  I had been hoping to confirm that it was worth ordering, luckily it was.

For anyone interested in the specs it converts AC to direct from  0 to 30 volts, is equipped with an 8 amp circuit breaker.  Polarity control is on top.  "The converter is compatible with most AC output transformers operating between 0 to 30 volts

I built a 2 rail line on my layout and although I will eventually go to DCC,  I just wanted to light my new 2 rail engines up and watch them move a bit.  The converter should fill the bill.
