Just wondering if anybody uses blinking bulbs. I thought perhaps this might "liven up" an otherwise dull layout, especially it if it is for kids or tinplate. With the Lionel lanterns in particular, upright red or green lenses, the blinking might be very "Christmassy".

Maybe if you only had one or two switches, but a handful of bulbs constantly blinking and not in any rhythm, would surely get annoying quickly,....😄

No thanks. The layouts plenty lively with the trains going around and the lights that are suppose to be flashing on crossings, signal bridges, semaphores etc.
Turn out the lights and things get more. I got it covered.

Just my opinion but, such an idea would drive me nuts, what with all that blinking! Besides, I never wanted the layout to look like a Christmas layout anyway.
More than enough color, both blinking and non-plinking, on my layout to satisfy me. Constant lit switch lanterns, blinking cross signals, blinking water towers, blinking Miller Engineering signs, block signals, semaphores provide more than enough entertainment and enjoyment. On my layout blinking switch lanterns would like kind of, well, cheesy.
I won’t even let our Christmas lights blink!

I guess you guys are right. A whole bunch of switch lamps constantly could bring headaches (or worse, if you are epileptic.)
The center part of my layout has one really critical switch, which governs which of several paths the train can take, and is a sort of a master switch to three other switches. So maybe, I'll just put a blinking light in that one lamp, to serve as a caution signal.

Mannyrock, you might find something to your liking at Menards. On their website, check out the Winter village, especially the accessories, mostly O scale-ish. When I go to visit with my wife's family in the Midwest, I always find something interesting in their O Gauge seasonal displays and have difficulty not buying something(s).
Thanks Steve! I will look into that. The only Menards product I own is a colorful Penn RR Caboose, with a great blinking light in the rear of the car. Probably my favorite car.
Mannyrock, you can do whatever you want on your layout. If blinking switch lights look good to you, then they are good.
