Other than the sound increasing and deceasing on a prescribed route, I don't hear much of any doppler effect at all. I hear no difference in pitch coming at or going away like I expected on any of my MTH steam or diesels. When it was originally promoted, it stressed "...the Doppler Effect represents the change in pitch and volume that results from a shift in the frequency of the sound waves as evidenced by the sound of an approaching object. For example, as an ambulance approaches, the sound waves from its siren are compressed towards the observer. The intervals between waves diminish, which translates into an increase in frequency or pitch. As the ambulance recedes, the sound waves are stretched relative to the observer, causing the siren's pitch to decrease. By the change in pitch of the siren, you can determine if the ambulance is coming nearer or speeding away..." All I get is just sound volume going up then down.....how bout others?

Mine has always worked as advertised when I have used it. It is more noticeable and pronounced at higher speeds. How fast are you running your engines?
I probably go no higher than 40 or 50 mph....I don't seem to hear much other than volume lowering and raising....do I need to go faster?
Try holding the whistle/horn (W/H) button down at the same time holding the Doppler button down. You should be able to hear the Doppler effect. Continue to hold the (W/H) button down until the Doppler effect has faded out..............rogerw.
Definitely go faster at least 70, all of mine work great and visitors love it. you don't have to program a route just press the doppler button when you want to hear it.
Thanks guys...did not know about the button trick....will try it tomorrow ASAP!....wife would kill me if I start up the trains tonight.....
