I’m a little frustrated here with MTH DSC Commander and my 3v PS2 diesel engine.

I using a z-750 with the DSC commander remote.

I’ve charged the battery for hours.

I’ve reset to factory settings.

I’ve even tried the PS3 remote command of “Sound”, “direction” and “-“ button’s with no success.

any other suggestions other than take to a dealer?

OGB- The remote commander can only do so much. New PS3 engines can be reset with the RC. Older PS2's need to be done with a full DCS system or via the transformer reset which can be tricky. There is a fine line between tap/press/hold commands with the bell/whistle buttons.

As @ScoutingDad suggested, find a friend with a TIU....

Are we talking about the DCS Commander or the DCS Remote Commander?  They're two totally separate products with widely different capabilities!  I see all the references to the DCS Commander, that one is fully capable of doing a factory reset on any DCS locomotive.

OG - been there,  I found the factory reset will not work using the transformer.  I had to use my DCS app to clear the engine assignment. Then it responded fine.  As soon as I put it back on my layout with DCS, and connected to DCS the engine would no longer respond to the commander.  Find someone who can do a DCS reset for you.

ScoutingDad - Oh good grief! I’m really trying to give MTH engines a try. I don’t know anyone locally so I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the dealer can do a reset for me.

thanks for taking time to provide the answer.

Anyone with a full DCS system with the TIU can do a reset.

Also, anyone with a DCS Commander can also do it.

OTOH, the DCS Remote Commander is not capable of resetting anything older than around 2015 manufacture.

@O G Beginner STL  OG stick with it. I am an MTH guy and really like the DCS controls. Now that Atlas has picked up DCS hopefully that means DCS will stick around for awhile. Unfortunately there are a few quirks to the system as you are experiencing.

You can look up locations of OGR members to see if anyone is reasonably close. Your profile only says US. Where are you?

The more I read about engines with bad batteries, I’m understanding that the loose the previous programmed number. Is it possible to just remove the battery and simulate a bad battery? Then do a reset?

A factory reset won't take with a bad battery.  Just replace the battery, problem solved.  A supercap replacement is a permanent solution to the bad battery issue.  For 3V boards, just whack the existing connector off the battery and solder it to a 1.5F 5V supercap.
