Why did Lionel use more than 1 type of e-unit , 2 and 3 position, in older engines ? I have a 4-4-2 , #6-8304 made in 1975 with only forward and reverse that I would like to add neutral as an option. So much easier to just push a button on my CW80 and have time to think about what the engines doing than throttling down then up again . I've found a business that advertise conversions but my local Lionel certified repair shop said he didn't think the 3 position would fit in my engine. Your thoughts
