Can anyone tell me if the early Lionel Legacy chuff activation 2006-2009 was done by a cherry switch, similar to RS4.0-5.0, or is it entirely done by tach reading and digitally synced to whatever rate is factory programmed into the board, just like current production RCMC?

Pretty sure all of the R4LC/DCDS engines used a cherry switch. Both are just a reprogrammed version of the Odyssey boards that came before and didn't have the capability to convert tach sensor pulses, gear ratio and driver diameter to determine chuff rate.

Yep, I don't know of any modular Legacy that drove it off the flywheel. I know I have a few of them, and they're all sporting mechanical chuff switches. AAMOF, my Vision Line CC2 has a bad switch and I dread opening it up to fix it, it's buried under EVERYTHING! I looked and left it for another day, I didn't want to spend the time right now.
