On the workbench F39 PRR "TrucTrain" flat incoming!

Mount Vernon Shops custom decals and OMI F39, yes this is P48 🙂 nice to get back to the models. My kids are getting a little older means more time with my toys. Wonder why that 2015 thread was locked? It was open last year. No matter I'll start a new one with some more stuff.

Your photography and modeling skills inspire me. To that end I am building cars for the New Haven Railroad TOFC service in the 1950s to 60s New York City to Boston trail liner. The New Haven was running trailers on standard flat cars beginning in 1937 – – – behind steam… In the 1950s new designs were sought in the New Haven railroad partnered with a French designer Deodat Clejan to build new 75’ cars.  The cars were unique because they had a clamping mechanism which reduced loading time. After some research I found drawings and a complete history of the cars in the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association Shoreliner  (Vol.33 issue 1).

My friend Bruce, encouraged me to tackle this project, along with his skill and many suggestions, the actually did come to life and runs on my Railroad. The car is modeled as the prototype was delivered.

The car and the messy photos leading to its final resolution with a result of a combination of styrene, aluminum channel, some bits of wood, and one 3D printed part, all keyed to the original prototype plan.IMG_2843IMG_2844IMG_2845IMG_2846

Some smart phone snaps 📸 on the test shelf... Getting along a little closer on my TrucTrain F39. Looking right ✅️ 😁👍🙃 test fitting some vans before i set start chaining things up and some light weathering i mean light. The signed TrucTrain cars were 1955 only and made only enough trips for light road grime. Pride was still high in those days. I think its a cool car and worth doing. 20230630_19462920230630_19463420230630_19470220230630_19472020230630_19472820230630_194802

That Truc Train car is fabulous.  I appreciate unique cars!
know if I had your construction and photographic skills…

Here are the NHRR 40’ TOFC flats with the rub rails and full width bridge plates.  Everything from the deck up was a combination of styrene, wood and wire.  Yes, I had to aid the springs, too.  Rivets are from Archer.

More light weathering is in the offing.
