I recently purchased a standard gauge stock car listed on eBay as a #113, shown in the attached photo next to my #114 boxcar and #33 loco.  Given its large size and more complex trucks, I think the stock car must in fact be a #13.  Because it is repainted, there are no stamps indicating model number.  I was surprised to find that the coupler height is not compatible with my existing equipment.

I have 2 questions.  We're the #12-17 cars and the #112-117 both produced by Lionel in the years 1913-1924, at different price points?  What locomotives are compatible in size with the #12-17 cars?

Hello,

Lionel first cataloged the 10 series freight cars in 1906, but production did not start until 1907. Lionel introduced the 100 series freight cars in 1910, when the 112 gondola (short body) and the 116 ballast car were first cataloged. Lionel introduced the rest of the 100 series cars including the long body version of the 112 in 1912. The 10 series cars were premium cars, intended for use with the #1912 and later #42 large electrics, the #1911 Special (later the #53) medium+ size electric, and the #5, #51, #6, and #7 steam locomotives. The 100 series cars were lower priced, and intended for use with the  #1910 (later the #33 and #34) and the #1911 (later the #38) small electric locomotives. Production on both the 10 and 100 series ended in 1926.
