Its pretty cool but at least two forum members have done this. One using TMCC and the other DCC and scale (not Kadee) couplers.

Saw this before. Raises an interesting question, though. Cost aside, do you want to use a lot of extra addresses to uncouple individual cars? It would seem more practical to have this kind of feature in locomotives and cabooses.
Well we have the advantage of size and space in O and it makes more sense to have operating couplers in your locos, thou it would be nice to cut any car any where you wanted.
I just purchased an MTH SD50 without fixed pilots so I would get the working couplers to convert to working Kadee's.

I'm thinking a remote that works just for uncoupling cars. You could log them just like engines on their own remote. Maybe using the car's numbers to keep them straight? Lets call it "the conductor's" remote?
