Thanks to the suggestions from members of our community on my last post, I recently added 2nd electrical pickup rollers to several of my Lionel passenger cars. They're installed, they work great, and the lighting flicker has been 99% resolved!

I do, however, have a question regarding the small copper contact points that rub against the axles.

As you can see, the small copper plates simply rest against the axle bar as it rotates. I assume the friction here isn't going to be extreme, but the original rollers on the other truck are all lubricated with some kind of grease.

Should I lubricate these points as well? What type of grease should I use? I assume it needs to be some kind of electrically conductive lubricant, but I don't know what the best option for that is.

Good point Rob, allow me to change my answer.  Dielectric grease is good to protect connections but is not recommended for the contact surface.  Electrically conductive grease has fine metal particles, or in the case of Neolube, graphite in suspension to conduct a charge.  Go with the Neolube graphite Rob recommends or the Bachman EZ lube that Rick suggested.  As an alternative, just keep the contacts clean, it will take a number of years for that contact to wear through.

Me too, …call mine a senior moment,…..in the automotive world we use D-grease to keep terminals and sockets from corroding,…..it does not have conductive properties,….
