Hi. Been messing around with this thing for the last few years. I've repaired just about everything and have a DC motor conversion in it. Now I would like, as economically possible, to install an electronic eunit. The boiler is pretty tight width wise. Would a 610-0103-100 fit? I see Jeff Kane has some.

Have you tried it with the original E-unit yet?
Yes, it's shorted in the coil somewhere. I was using it in DC.
A 103 E unit ain’t gonna like the amps that loco needs to move,.....what DC motor did you install?....pics would help, ....might have to mount the reverser in the tender and route a tether,......

You might check with Dallee Electronics. They have DC E-units. If you call, you may be able to get the dimensions. I suspect they are in the $50 price range.

It's the DC motor supplied by Timko. Does the dallee unit have a rectifier built in?

Yes, their e-units will run AC or DC motors, ....I’d probably suggest the # 400, that’s the 4 amp capable unit, .....not sure you’ll fit in the boiler or not, but maybe some creative thinking might get it in there, .....I use FR gasket paper when I know electronics are going to be in close quarters with boiler shells,....I just line the area of the shell where it looks like it’s going to land, .....small drop of adhesive holds it in place ,....

Williams also used to sell a reverse board and knowing those power hungry things, it would be rated high amps as well
There is an available $44 Electronic Model Railroad Reversing Unit (E-Unit) for Lionel Engines that works with AC or DC using relays for a 10 amp capacity and is about the same footprint as the original E-Unit.

Oh, I like that with the screw terminals. Where to get?
Looks to be good for Lionel AC motors; from bay listing, "DC motors can also be controlled, but an external full-wave bridge rectifier must be added to rectify the track AC waveform".

You will have to Google "Electronic Model Railroad Reversing Unit (E-Unit) for Lionel Engines" because if a link is posted, a competing forum sponsor will complain to the moderators. When you do Google it, the sponsor's site actually comes up 1st in the results.
Think I'm going with the dallee unit because of size. Thanks!
Installed the dallee unit. Works great..
Barely fits width wise, but does make it. You just have to center it real well on the frame.
