Ground cover for engine service area ??? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Do you have a favorite ground cover / ballast you typically use in engine service yards / turntable tracks / roundhouse area etc ???

I was going to use Brennan's Natural Earth ground cover however I believe it is no longer available - would one of Brennan's ballast products be a better choice ?

I use a mixture. I use to gather gravel at work and sift it after it was good and dry. A bit of Woodland Scenics Earth, Soil and Fine Cinders. I’d just mix everything together using no exact ratio. The tracks themselves would be ballasted with mostly medium cinders along with a bit of the mix. Don’t forget weeds and clumps of grass tufts.

I use Senic Express #16 dark gray ballest mixed with HO black cinders in all my yards and engine terminal.

I used Brennen's darker ballast. I use the lighter one for my main lines. Nice products.
