Ground cover for engine service area ???

I like the light Black Beauty abrasive material.

I use a mixture. I use to gather gravel at work and sift it after it was good and dry. A bit of Woodland Scenics Earth, Soil and Fine Cinders. I’d just mix everything together using no exact ratio. The tracks themselves would be ballasted with mostly medium cinders along with a bit of the mix. Don’t forget weeds and clumps of grass tufts.

I used HO scale gravel for mine.

I use Senic Express  #16 dark gray ballest mixed with HO black cinders in all my yards and engine terminal.

I used Brennen's darker ballast. I use the lighter one for my main lines. Nice products.

Woodland Scenics Fine Cinder Ballast with a few grasses randomly placed.

I used a combination of real dirt that's been sifted,  chicken grit from Tractor Supply and N scale ligh gray ballast for graveled areas.

I was going to use Brennan's Natural Earth ground cover however I believe it is no longer available - would one of Brennan's ballast products be a better choice ?

I would check with Dennis Brennan on that. It should still be available. I use a lot of his products.
