Can I use a ERR board for sound on a conventional layout? I just want a horn and bell sound for my Lionel 2343 . Nothing fancy I'm a plain Jane and like things simple.
Thanks,

Yep, the ERR RailSounds Commander is specifically designed to run with conventional or command. For conventional you get horn, bell, and prime mover sounds. If you don't want the prime mover sounds, you can add a jumper to disable them and just have the horn and bell.
Thanks

You’ll want to add the back up battery feature that’s included in the kit, to add to what what John suggested, ……when using the RS Commander in conjunction with a mechanical e unit that needs complete power drop out to switch directions, the sound drop outs are really annoying…..don’t ask me how I know this,……😉

I want to add this to Lionel 2343 dummy A unit. I take it I only need hot wire to roller pickup and ground. Is the battery necessary with this

I only run my trains in one direction I run two trains at the same time. I have set up two zones of each loop to stop trains from entering cross over. I wan them to start back up in the forward direction each time they are stopped and restarted.

I would recommend it, it’s extremely simple to install,…….I just did a restoration last fall of a pair of postwar F3’s and we put the sounds in the dummy A,……the problem I had was the engine started to move before there was sufficient power to engage the sound system….so it would get a bunch of clicks and ticks as it kept trying to start and stop sounds,…..when I added the battery, it was perfect!!…….

Here’s how I did the sound set install, ….granted, this is an older RS Commander,….but you can get the idea, ….battery box is towards the right in this picture…
