Just completed an ERR Cruise Commander/Railsounds (C420) upgrade of an AA pair of WBB Erie 0-27 Alcos. Always wanted the Lionels
when I was a kid; my favorite cab-diesel paint scheme (even prefer it to the GM&O's).
Sweet little locos; I moved one of the motor trucks to the dummy, so both are powered, added Electrocouplers (short-shank, cab-ends only), directional lighting, track pickup from both units, and worked the new speaker (Moto-Tool moment) into the fuel tank. Very sure-footed electrically.
Don't ask about the 8-wire tether between the units - ouch; it's not a connector - it's hard-wired - and I'm going to replace the dummy couplers with
a short drawbar (like the first EMD FT). It's no harder to pick up/handle than a 2-8-8-2 articulated.
Anyway, works well; I will probably black out/letter over the "ERIE", as I love the paint scheme, but the road is not relevant. I'm using it as sort of
a freelance Alco switcher that no one ever heard of.
I got all the components from Bill at Modern Toy Train Parts.
