I recently upgraded two Pennsylvania Jr. Mikado (6-38616) locos to err Cruise Commander "M". Everything works just fine. Engines perform well and the smoke units work fine. BUT the problem I have is the headlight on neither loco motive will work. They worked fine before the upgrade was made.

I have checked all connections, no wiring is frayed or pinched. I even installed new headlight wiring leads just to verify that the grain of wheat bulbs were not defective. Sitll, no headlights.

I really do not want to de-install these Cruise M's and de-install & reinstall a Cruise M from one of my other fully functioning locos to check this problem. At lease not yet.

The techs at ERR are puzzeled as well concerning the "no headlight" problem.

Does anyone on the forum have any suggestions as to what the problem may be or what else to check.

The headlight works from the R4LC (or R2LC).  The Cruise M does not control lights.  Can you explain where the lights are attached in the loco?  Don't forget AUX2 turn on and off headlamps.

Also try reprogramming the TMCC ID + feature code.

And Try to run it conventionally, and report if this helps turning on the headlights.

Jon, thanks for the understanding that the Cruise M does not affect the headlight. The headlight connection is to a three prong connector on the R24L. I pulled those connections and reinserted them with no change.

I had tried the Aux 2 feature again, which I had done previously, with no change, as well as the TMCC ID and Aux 4 and no change,

Finally, I attempted to  run the locos conventionally. That too failed to provide lights. So that seems to tell me the problem is another source.

Bill, I tried the Aux 74 feature with no positive result.

I believe a Lionel repair must be in order.

Thanks for ALL your help men. I appreciate your input.

This man is eating a lot of CROW!

One of these days I shall learn to follow directions as SantaFeFan and ERR both suggested.

Forgive my grave IGNORANCE! As I stated earlier in my post I tried AUX 2 with no results..

Well, I went back over all your comments. I reread the Legacy Instructions. Then I received another email from ERR which again said be sure your AUX2 is not tuned off.

My ignorance was in pressing AUX(1) and then 2. It is to press AUX2. And "lo and behold" the lights showed brillantly.

Gentlemen, Thank you.

(Maybe this newbie should go back to his G-scale and it's radio control. At least I had it down pat!)

Wes, could you comment a bit more abut the difference in operation of your PRR "Baby" Mikado after this change?  Is the start speed slower with more precise control? How many cuffs per revolution of the wheels? I have such a locomotive and love it, but would like the slower speed of my other locomotives that have ERR upgrades.   Boxcar Bill did such an upgrade on a "Baby Hudson" and it is fantastic.
