Recently I acquired the wonderful MTH Maersk GP60 from another forum member. I was inspired to put together the cars and containers for re-creating a famous historical photo. When Santa Fe repainted an engine in Maersk colors in the early 90s for some pr pictures, train modelers took note. The picture below is a favorite of mine so I tried to line up similar cars and containers.
I realize MTH did this in a set a few years back, but I think it looks better without the bulkheads and with silver/gray containers. The Maxi-I cars I built for this are similar to the BNSF ones I posted here this past summer.
Merry Christmas!

Yeah it was a must have for me. I have Lionel's version as well as all of Lionel's add on cars. They are still a much sought after item. I'm always looking for Maersk units on UP's intermodal cars when they come through my location, you would be surprised how many I see.
Happy Holidays!
Ken
You got this correct. The Maeresk colors are one of the nicest color schemes. This is my Lionel SD70 with matching stack cars.

Martin,
I'm definitely a fan of the Maersk Maxi-I cars and this is one set that is a must have for me. They are better without the bulkheads and yours look fantastic. The blue color helps break up a train of yellow and/or red stacks and pig flats or spine cars. Did you use a rattle can to paint them? Your color looks very good. I have a set of MTH cars that I started painting in Maersk blue, but the color was too light and almost appeared grayish, so I ended up painting them yellow. Thanks for posting and Merry Christmas to you and family!
Everyone loves Maersk, right?
No Thanks, too modern for me and all those containers of imported products reflect badly on our trade deficit !

Like it?!?!? I love it!!! So tasty!!.....oh....you're talking about THAT! Must be popular as even Lego has done some!
Well, maybe not everybody!
But you are right Ace. I can't imagine all that cheap stuff at Walmart and Costco without containerization and factories in Asia.

The MAERSK containers can be hauling anything from anywhere. Last fall there was a MAERSK Container on Chassie in a parking lot at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. It was not a retail store.
I like those containers.

Martin,
Very nice. You've really outdone yourself this time. Though the GP60M was painted in Maersk colors for only a few weeks for the publicity shots, Maersk stack cars were a common sight on stack trains in the 1990s. I'd love to have a set for my ATSF stack trains.

Martin, very pleased you started this thread. The Maersk engine and stack train combo is as good a looking freight train as you will find. It is not often shown on the Forum but deserves your recognition.
Rich, those stack cars are still around today. (or at least within the last several years).
However, they are renumbered as SP or SFLC and unfortunately they look like this now.
