I am an MTH user with a curiosity about Lion Chief 2.0 diesel engines. If I am reading the current 2020 catalog correctly, I only have a choice of the 4 engines shown on page 93 of the catalog, correct? I don't want a SET, don't want STEAM, and don't want LEGACY. So choices seem very limited...

Page 138 has GP38s but only in LC. So yes the only LC+ 2.0 are on the page indicated. I'd look int the 2019 V2 catalog as well. They have SD80/90s in that one as well as GG1s. They also have FT units too. All LC+2.0.

I assume you are planning on using the Lionel Bluetooth app, since you don't want Legacy, correct? Alternatively you can spring for the Universal Remote for about $40 streetprice as this will provide Bluetooth function with a handheld remote, as opposed to the app, which uses a smart phone or tablet.
If so, and you are using DCS, you have constant voltage on your track and can use any Lionel command equipped loco with Bluetooth. That's everything. LionChief (all set locos are LionChief as are a few separate sale locos), LC+, newer Legacy locos and LC + 2.0 all have Bluetooth. No TIU, no Legacy or TMCC base, no WIU needed. Older Legacy and TMCC locos do not have Bluetooth, but all new ones do. In other words all of the locos currently being catalogued have Bluetooth, so you can use any current Lionel production loco with your DCS layout if you are using the app or the Universal Remote handheld. Not only are you not limited to the LC+ 2.0 locos, but everything in the newer catalogs works with Bluetooth now, which means the entire product line.

Lionel has introduced 21 different locomotives in its new LC+ 2.0 line, which seems like a more than adequate amount for an introductory line. Obviously, by eliminating so many variables, the available choices for you are going to be thinned down, but I wouldn't want someone to get the wrong impression and think that the whole current Lionel 2.0 line-up is "limited" by any means.
In addition, there may be more additions to the 2.0 line-up when the V.2 catalogue comes out.
