Just wondering if I can expect all PS2 and PS3 engines to have the Extended Startup and Shutdown? I read Barry's book but still not sure the easiest way to activate.
Thanks,

The options are available for my PS 3, not sure on the PS2. You cane see them after pressing the center icon with all the small squares, then under the sounds it show show all the available options to you.
You can move entries on the list so they show up on your function buttons. Most of the engines I have do feature the extended startup/shutdown, I don't know if all of them do.

center icon with all the small squares? What's that? My DCS remote doesn't have that.

FWIW, I have yet to find a PS2 or PS3 engine that lacks the Extended Startup or Extended Shut Down soft keys.
I read Barry's book but still not sure the easiest way to activate.
The only way to activate these features from the DCS Remote is either by pressing the appropriate soft key, if it appears on the Engine Screen, or by selecting it from the soft key list accessed by the More soft key.
FYI, all soft keys may also be accessed via the DCS App's soft key list.

sorta related: I have 2 PS3 engines. If I hit extended startup on both at or near the same time, the sequence is 100% identical. That's sad to me considering they are different engines.

This is also true with the PSA and PFA announcements I have several of the MTH PS2 and PS3 Christmas engines of steam and Diesel and most of the sounds of the same. Hoping PS4 has some new sounds including whistles.

What's the difference between "startup 3 button" and extended startup which i didn't know even existed?
WILLYGEE It is just a longer start up and shut down sequence. I would guess more realistic. Some include some include dialog and extra sounds.
To add to Barry's comments, the SSU and SSD can also be moved to appear in the soft keys if they are not there already.

They are always present as soft keys SSU and SSD on the engine screen unless they've been deleted. They're just not always in the first 15 soft keys displayed.
Further, if they've been deleted from as particular DCS Remote, they can be restored by deleting the engine and then adding it back to the DCS Remote.
