Extending a roof to fit a 602 Baggage car.

I found a 602 Lionel Baggage car at last years Springfield MA train show. It was minus a roof, one of our OGR Members was kind enough to offer me one, unfortunately it didn't fit, it was too small...Here's how I made it fit. I had some brass wire and I soldered it around the perimeter of the roof, filed the solder smooth and filled in the gaps with Bondo body filler, I sanded the Bondo to shape the roof and it added almost 1/8 of an inch to the width and length, which was just enough to make the roof fit. Now I have a baggage car to complete my Lionel 259 custom train including a milk car made from a tender.

What a fantastic job you have done. In my mind, bringing old Lionel trains back to life and letting them run again is one of my favorite parts of the hobby. I would guess about 25% of my tinplate collection consists of junkers brought back to life to run like new and live again.

Not quite sure of the last post by Gene but thought I'd jump in with some photos from my end. Various work done over the last couple of years. In my mind the 150 series of Lionel engines and cars of the period- easy to work on, uncomplicated and says - life was simple. I bought a MTH proto sound 3 PRR set few years ago and love it, including various other older sets proto 2 etc. but aint nothing like the tinplate to get back to roots.
