Not all MTH F40s are the same size (length). The Delta Force F40 is RailKing, if your Caltrain shell is also a RailKing version not a Premier version it should fit. The MTH Premier F40 body (shell) is longer.
The MTH Premier F40PH is not only longer, is it also taller. I have both version and I always wondered why MTH tooled two different versions of the same locomotive. Times were certainly different then with the number of units sold compared to today.
thanks guys, it turns out the caltrain was legacy and the traction motor on the front was too tall but I was able to cut the air cleaner and 3d print a new smaller cleaner to fit it, as for the wiring I had to extend it because it would reach the board and souder it, but money well spent I got a 300 to 500 locomotive for 145 plus shipping
