Ok, I bought a set of lionel crossing gates 6-12062. The grade crossing gate with sound. On my workbench, I apply power to middle track and clip the ground wire to the non-insulated rail. it was sold as non working but it did work. gates come down, bell rang, flashers flashed. I put it on my layout, bell dings the entire time. I've flipped the 3 pieces of track around to no avail. I'm not the most careful person. Is it possible that I grounded both rails somewhere on my layout and that is what's causing the issue? Is there a fix other than tearing up all my feeds?? Thanks, Jeff

Me too.
Do you have the insulated 5” extension pieces? Those are a must. Make sure the rails with the brake in them are aligned on the same side and are along the rail marked INSULATED on the bottom of the crossing. Do this separate from the layout and once proven then slide it back in.
It was working fine on the bench. 2 10” insulated with the gate in the middle. I replaced 3 10” pieces with my crossing gate and 2 10”, applied power, and the gates came down and dinging started. Flipped 3 pieces (left together) and same result. I never separated the 3 pieces after it worked on bench. Just don’t get it
If you are using full 10” insulated track sections then the problem is they become uninsulated once you connect to regular track section. There has to be a break in the outer rail from one side of that crossing to the other. I look at the 10” insulated sections simply as “extensions,”. You need to get the 5” pieces with the cut in the rail or use a Dremel and make your own.
Sounds like you don't have the sections correct. I wanted the ones on my layout to start to go down and ring way before the train got to the gate, like in real life, so I put the ISOLATED track sections (that came with gate 6-12060) 5-6 pieces out from the crossing gate on each side. When you do that you have to put INSULATED track sections (6-12027) next to the crossing gate itself and between your isolated section. You must have all Insulated sections between the ISOLATED sections. If you just want to test, put your Isolated sections that came with it on each side of the gate, breaks on the same side and on same side as the switch. Put it on your layout it and it should work when the train passes over the break. To put the activation out earlier (before train gets to gate), put your isolated sections out further and add insulated sections between on each side of the gate. Mine has worked perfect since I installed it, unlike trying to using those infrared sensor which are hit or miss.
Read the instructions closely. Insulated and Isolated sections are NOT the same.

As I said, I bought it used and it only came with one 5” piece. I’ll get out my dremmel in a few days and give it a try
Any track between the isolated sections must have ALL of the ground straps on the bottom side of the track removed. ( These tie the outer rails together) Otherwise the isolated sections are not doing their job.
