Fastrack Layout - Moving Advice

I also have a 5 x 9 layout with wood base and homasote on top.  Depending on the thickness of the plywood (mine is on a ping pong table with 5/8" wood top)) are your sure you can move the layout  in one piece after removing the frame/ legs?  Mine is quite heavy...

No I’m not sure but certainly going to give it a try.  Getting it to come up the basement steps was my biggest concern.   I figure a couple of strong guys could lift it.  

You likely have a 2x4 centered in your framework.  Double it with a second 2x4 which will be off center.  You can then take a saw and cut the frame and top between the two 2x4s which will give you two easily manageable ~4.5'x5' pieces.

You can reassemble the pieces with bolts and a plate on each side across the cut.  We did this with out first layout (1x3s).  It has worked for 20 years.
