I’ve read and heard all the stories about how noisy Fastrack is mounted on wood.I know there are some members here who have “Carpet Central “ RR in their homes.Well I’ve been thinking about putting some Fastrack on the concrete floor of my pole barn. Its nothing permanent ,just something to put up and down when I’m not working on my cars. Thanks

Fastrack itself is silent.
Trains on Fastrack are noisier than tubular track because that hollow plastic base acts as a sounding board, much like a the hole in a guitar.
How much sound/noise is too much sound? It will be much less sound than your car exhaust.
How big an area are you looking at? Maybe use a cheap carpet remnant that you can roll up when the cars come in, or just leave down.
Another option I've seen, but don't know how well it works, is to glue pieces of carpet to the bottom of each section of Fastrack.
Real trains go click-it-de-clack over tracks.
I have a sneaking hunch that FasTrack sitting on a concrete floor will be somewhat quieter than FasTrack mounted to a plywood-covered, board-framed echo resonator (er, train table, that is).
I've put Fastrack on concrete, it's still noisy.
One trick with Fastrack is carpet with a medium high nap, it fills the echo chamber base and really cuts down the noise. Fastrack will never be the quietest track, but you can do things to help with the noise level.
I have been using Fastrack for years now and the noise hasn’t really bothered me that much. I would go with a temporary carpet as others have mentioned.
I used a cheapo moving blanket from Harbor Freight, it brought the noise level down.
I use carpet under-pad under my fastrack. You can then paint the under-pad and paint an earth coloured brown, then sprinkle on coloured sawdust and ground foam (while the paint is still wet) to give a good "earth like" look. Noise is not significant in my opinion (however my hearing is not a good as my kids)
I have operated train on fastrack on a concrete floor that was covered with indoor/outdoor carpet. I do not find it to be that unpleasant. Maybe other people would.
