I have a product idea for the Lionel Fastrack line. I would like to see a rerailer in a standard 10 inch section. it could be a stand alone piece that you could hide in a tunnel or something, or the 6-12036 Grade Crossing could be retooled to incorporate a rerailing feature. These rerailers are common in HO and N were derailing is common. I think there could be a place for it in O gauge as well.

Any other thoughts?

I'm not sure they need another type.

That is meant for placing the cars on the track.

Tim is looking for something like this:

rerailer ho

, but for FasTrack.  The features molded between the rails help recover the position for wheels that are slightly off while operating.

I'm thinking part of the reason we don't see this in O is because lots of times if wheels derail, it doesn't take long before something touches the center rail and trips the circuit breaker.  For DC based layouts (HO and N), it takes quite a derailment before anything crosses from one side to the other to create a short.

Chris,
I looked at that, but the edges are very blunt and I don't think they would redirect the wheels back into their grooves. I am running a long string of 11 modern Madison cars on my store layout, they are so long that when I shut them down sometimes they compress and one set of wheels comes partially off, when I restart them again it will run sometimes for quite awhile before I notice one is derailed. I will probably end up making my own.

I see what your saying; You need it to help guide the wheels back on while it's in motion like with smaller scales. Maybe you could dremal a piece of track to make it work. I came accross a piece of grade crossing that my dog chewed part of the road but the track is still good. Your welcome to it if your interested.  Shoot me an E-Mail.
