Friend was considering purchasing a new Union Pacific ALCO PA pair from store that hadn't had the issue corrected. Since they are out of warranty is there any other way to resolve the issue?
Or will they always be engine #1? Thanks

If he buys it from an authorized dealer the warranty starts the date of purchase. You can confirm this by calling or emailing Lionel.
To add to Marty's post, that applies as long as it's three years or less since the release from Lionel, so if you buy a 5 year old engine NIB from an authorized dealer, it wouldn't be covered.
Thanks guys, it is a dealer These were in the 2018 catalog so he has a few months then.
Though there really should be no time limit for a factory defect like this.
crap, I am in the same boat, I bought it from a guy on eBay and it forgets also. SKU 1933170, not sure what catalog is was from. I wrote to them but no word back yet. I am willing to pay I guess at this point.
