I'm guessing the gurus know this, but I consider my familiarity with DCS somewhat decent and I only stumbled on these by accident. I was playing around with doppler and learned a couple of things, 2 of which I LOVE. So I'll throw them out there.
1. Here's on that I never realized since I rarely use the doppler effect. The setting for the doppler effect is saved from session to session. I'm not talking about the [D] staying on the screen if you do a shutdown without turning doppler off. I'm talking about remembering the distance of the loop. You can come into a subsequent session and begin doppler at the spot that you like without remeasuring.
2. This is one of the fun ones: I had a train running under doppler and wanted to test the loudness setting of the bell so I turned it on. It fades in and out just like the engine sounds do. So it's kinda neat, like pulling into a station where the bell gets louder as it approaches and then when leaving the station gets softer the further away until it goes quiet.
3. This the other fun one: The same effect happens with the whistle. No, I don't keep it on but use short quick blasts and it fades in/out too.
4. I tried doing the same using clickity clack but the 2 seem incompatible with each other.
