I have a G gauge engine that has four LEDs around the body and four more on the chasis that I'd call running lights. I want to hook them up. The marker light output on the PS2 board instruction says just two lights max. I figure they were talking bulbs but they supply micro colored LEDs for the markers.

Could I hook all eight LED's with resistors to say the interior light output?  More importantly are certain outputs higher capacity that I should use at times like this? I've never read a listing of each outputs capability.

I'm thinking that LEDs shouldn't draw too much for an output that's designed for bulbs?

Joe,  The MTH bulbs draw about 60ma.  They recommend only 2 bulbs, but they have installed up to 3 via patch panel on some models.  The FET can handle it.

On the markers circuit these are powered by the 5VDC regulator.  They have resistors in place already in the circuit.  I would be careful using this output to drive more devices or lights.  That 5VDC regulator is a 1 amp unit, but it feeds every processor but 3, the 3.3V regulator which feeds those 3 processors, the fan motor, tach reader, and speaker.  So I would hate to run that one at max output:-)

The lighting circuit is fed via the main rectifier and limited to 6V effective voltage via PWM of the FET.

You could also install a CV board and feed the additional lighting from that.  Since this is a G engine with room, you could put a relay in and use a light output to turn the relay on an off to control the CV board.  Just don't do any of this while the engine is powered up-;  G

Now G, why would you tell me that?? Not like I do it all the time?

Thanks for the info. I will copy it so I can use it in the future. I have removed the smoke unit completely. Maybe that could supply power for the LEDs?? The interior light is where I had them hooked up.
